Trafford Award

This award is presented annually to an individual (child or adult), unit or group in Girlguiding GMW, from any area, who have been giving service in the community over a period of time. It is not awarded for a one-off piece of service or service that is solely Guiding based.

Nominations may be submitted to the chair of the awards committee at any time during the year for the presentation to be made at the County's Annual Gathering. GMWAwardsCommittee@gmail.com 

Examples of previous recipients:

  • A volunteer who regularly visits patients in a hospice
  • A Brownie unit who has entertained residents of a care home at Christmas over a period of years
  • A Guide unit for the help they give backstage to a local dancing school's annual charity fundraising show and have done so for 15+ years
  • An individual member who helped care for a disabled person at weekends enabling them to continue living in their own home
  • 2016 Ellenbrook Brownies for raising money for a defibrillator for their unit meeting place, supporting the Royal British Legion, Christie's and many other community projects. 
  • 2017 Pat Mayle for co-ordinating the comfort bag scheme
  • 2018 Hale Guide Unit for continuous service at after church lunches
  • 2019 Alison Forshaw for the Bee Badge project and raising money for The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital 
  • 2020 Winners 1st Pendlebury Guides for decorating and furnishing the welfare room at Pendleton Police Station
